We bought a zoo!

I know most of my readers follow us because of our foster care/adoption journey, and all of our crazy family doings... But this post is purely a design post. (and a little update in what were up to... Design:)

We bought a house.
Not a zoo, a house. (I keep saying that to myself all day, but it still feels like a zoo!)
The house needs help.
Like us.

So now, added to my list of titles is general contractor and interior designer! I love those titles!!

So our zoo, I mean house, was built in 1979 (the last year they used asbestos in the popcorn ceilings:). It sits on about 3/4 of an acre at the base of a bluff in our town, but it feels like we live in the mountains. It has really mature pine trees all around and views of the mountains, and the backyard has trails that lead all over the bluff, and big rock formations, it truly is the "idyllic Colorado" setting.

On our date last week David and I went and sat on the front porch and cried. We feel so blessed. We Still can't believe it is ours and that we are able to do some renovations before moving in.

Here are some "before" pictures...

We've already started painting the basement.

I'm going for a farm house/industrial chic look.
Kinda out of the box.

We'll have wood floors throughout the up stairs, a drift wood grey. (I want to paint them white but every man involved in this project has stomped on my dream) grey is also amazing, I'm just not sure how it will turn out since we will be sanding/staining existing wood and new wood and such...

We are knocking out a wall in the kitchen to open it up to the living room. And painting, and new countertops, and new light fixtures, and new carpet, and scraping asbestos:)

Oh and fixing the foundation.

And yes, we are having people do most of this...

And I am so so excited! So stay tuned for updates, because we move in the end of this month and all of this should be done by then...

I'll try to do updates before the big reveal.

But here are a few sneak peaks:

  5. The slide looks perfect for your tribe. i do have One Oma Addition. Look at: http://www.ondecksports.com/Products/Sports-Netting and you can create a custom spider netting for the outer edge of slide that can anchor to the ceiling. Great for the boys?!
